Seasonal and Perennial Allergies (Hay Fever)

What is it?

Perennial Allergies, often called “hay fever,” is an inflammatory response your body creates when it encounters particles in the air that it mistakenly sees as harmful. Seasonal allergies occur during specific times of the year when plants release pollen into the air, such as in spring, summer, or fall.

Perennial allergies, however, are triggered by year-round indoor allergens. These indoor triggers may quietly affect you every day, leading to symptoms that feel like a constant cold or sinus congestion. Whether your allergies worsen at certain times of the year or persist throughout all seasons, both types can significantly impact sleep, concentration, and overall comfort.

Common Symptoms
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sneezing fits
  • Itchy nose, mouth, or throat
  • Post-nasal drip leading to a cough
  • Watery or itchy eyes
  • Brain fog,
  • Headache
  • Fatigue due to poor sleep quality
  • Sinus pressure or sinus discomfort
Triggers and Causes
  • Tree pollen (spring)
  • Grass pollen (late spring and summer)
  • Weed pollen (late summer and fall)
  • Dust mites are commonly found in bedding, carpets, and upholstery
  • Pet dander from cats, dogs, and other furry animals
  • Mold spores are found indoors and outdoors
  • Cockroach allergens in homes or apartments
  • Weather changes that affect pollen levels

When to Schedule a Visit?

You should schedule a visit if your symptoms are uncontrolled, especially if they last longer than two weeks, if over-the-counter medications fail to provide adequate relief, or if your allergies are causing regular sinus infections or asthma flare-ups.

When allergies cause persistent congestion, interfere with sleep, or make it difficult to engage in outdoor activities, a professional evaluation is also advised.

How do we help?

We offer comprehensive allergy evaluations using skin prick testing and targeted blood work to identify exactly what you are allergic to. Considering this information, we create a customized treatment plan that may include prescription medications, nasal sprays, and environmental techniques to reduce exposure.

We provide allergen immunotherapy, which gradually reduces your sensitivity to allergens and includes oral pills and allergy injections, for long-term treatment. Our objective is to make it easier for you to breathe, sleep, and engage in daily activities without experiencing ongoing allergy symptoms.
